What is Glorification: The Day We See Him as He Is

The journey of salvation, which began with a sovereign declaration, JUSTIFICATION, and continued with a gracious transformation, SANCTIFICATION, culminates in a breathtaking, eternal consummation. This is GLORIFICATION. It is the final, irreversible state of the redeemed, where the work God began in you is brought to glorious completion (Philippians 1:6). It is the hope that has sustained saints through ages of persecution, pain, and the mundane struggles of life. It is the moment when the seed, sown in weakness, is raised in power; when the pilgrim finally enters the Celestial City; when the reflection in the mirror becomes, at last, a perfect likeness. This is not a peripheral doctrine but the blessed hope that fuels your present faithfulness.

The Promise and the Hope

From the very beginning, God intended for humanity to share in His glory. Humanity was created a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned with glory and honor (Psalm 8:5). Yet, through sin, that glory was forfeited. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). The entire redemptive narrative is the story of God restoring His glory to a people.

This hope of future glory sustains you in the present. The sufferings of this present time, as real and painful as they are, are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us (Romans 8:18). The Apostle Paul saw his afflictions as “light and momentary” because they were producing for him “an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison” (2 Corinthians 4:17). This hope is an anchor for the soul, firm and secure (Hebrews 6:19). When you feel the weight of a fallen world—the sickness, the grief, the injustice, the inner turmoil you can lift your eyes to this sure and certain future. You are not just waiting for a place but for a state of being. You are waiting for the redemption of your body (Romans 8:23).

The Transformation: From Corruption to Incorruption

Glorification is profoundly physical. It is not an escape from the body into a disembodied spiritual existence. Just as God created a physical world and called it good, so too will He redeem it. Your current body is subject to weakness, decay, and death, a consequence of the Fall. But glorification involves a dramatic, instantaneous change.

In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet, the dead will be raised imperishable, and you, if you are alive and remain, will be changed (1 Corinthians 15:52). This perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality (1 Corinthians 15:53). The curse of Genesis 3 will be utterly and finally reversed. No more tears, no more death, no more mourning, nor crying, nor pain (Revelation 21:4). The creation itself, which has been groaning under the burden of corruption, will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God (Romans 8:21).

Imagine a seed. It is small, plain, and buried underground. It bears little resemblance to the magnificent flower it will become. Your current body is that seed. Your glorified body will be the flower continuous with the seed, yet unimaginably more glorious, powerful, and beautiful. It will be a spiritual body, not meaning non-physical, but perfectly suited and fully animated by the Spirit of God, just as the resurrected body of Jesus was—real, tangible, yet unrestricted by natural limitations (John 20:19, 26).

Glorification changes your STATE (from mortal to immortal).

The Final State: Eternal Fellowship in Divine Glory

The culmination of glorification is your eternal dwelling in the direct, unmediated presence of God. You will see His face (Revelation 22:4). In this life, you see dimly, as in a mirror, but then you will see face-to-face (1 Corinthians 13:12). The longing of the Psalmist, “to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD” (Psalm 27:4) will be your eternal reality.

This is the fulfillment of the covenant promise that runs like a golden thread from Genesis to Revelation: “I will be their God, and they shall be my people” (Jeremiah 31:33, Revelation 21:3). The New Jerusalem, the bride of Christ, descends from heaven, and the glory of God gives it light (Revelation 21:10-11). There will be no need for sun or moon, for the Lord God will be your everlasting light (Revelation 22:5, Isaiah 60:19). You will not merely observe this glory; you will share in it. You will reign with Him forever and ever (Revelation 22:5). The journey that began with you being declared righteous and continued with you being made righteous will end with you being fully and perfectly righteous, dwelling in righteousness (2 Peter 3:13), and radiating the very righteousness of Christ for all eternity.

Glorification is the final and complete redemption of the whole person, spirit, soul, and body, marking the end of sin, suffering, and death, and the beginning of an eternal state of perfect holiness and joy in the immediate presence of God.

Glorification is a certain future for everyone who is in Christ, guaranteed by the Holy Spirit, who is the down payment of our inheritance (Ephesians 1:13-14). It is the hope that makes every step of the journey of justification and sanctification worthwhile.

So, press on. Fight the good fight. Finish the race. Keep the faith. From henceforth, there is laid up for you the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to you on that Day, and not only to you but to all who have loved his appearing (2 Timothy 4:7-8). Your story, from Genesis to Revelation, ends not with a period, but with an eternal exclamation point in the glory of God.

The Benefits of GLORIFICATION

(The Consummate Benefits: What is Awaiting You)

  1. The Redemption of Your Body: Your mortal, perishable, weak body will be transformed into an immortal, imperishable, powerful, spiritual body like Christ’s (1 Corinthians 15:42-44, 53-54; Philippians 3:21).
  2. The End of All Suffering: God Himself will wipe away every tear. There will be no more death, mourning, crying, or pain (Revelation 21:4).
  3. Perfect, Unbroken Fellowship with God: You will see Him face to face, dwelling in His immediate, unmediated presence for all eternity (Revelation 22:4, 1 Corinthians 13:12).
  4. Complete Freedom from Sin’s Presence: Nothing impure will ever enter; you will be finally and perfectly holy, unable to sin (Revelation 21:27, Jude 1:24).
  5. Full Understanding and Knowledge: You will know fully, even as you are fully known. All mysteries will be made plain (1 Corinthians 13:12).
  6. Eternal Rest from Labor: The struggle against the flesh, the world, and the devil will be over. You will enter into the Sabbath rest of God’s people (Hebrews 4:9-11).
  7. Vindication and Reward: Every act of faithfulness will be acknowledged. You will receive the crown of righteousness and hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (2 Timothy 4:8, Matthew 25:21).
