Passion Week: Spy Wednesday

This day is traditionally called “Spy Wednesday” because it marks the day Judas became a spy for the religious leaders, watching for an opportunity to betray Jesus.

Luke 22:3–6; Mark 14:10–11

Judas was no longer merely tempted; he had fully committed to his betrayal and began looking for the right moment to hand Jesus over when no crowd was present. The name captures the dark irony of the week: while the other disciples saw a faithful companion, Judas was a spy in the camp, pretending to love the One he planned to destroy.

This is a sobering reminder that God sees what others do not. Appearances do not matter to Him; He looks at the heart. Do not let hypocrisy take root in you. If you are holding onto secret sin or playing a part in your faith, let this be the day you step into the light. Jesus knows your heart completely, and He loves you enough to call you to truth. There is no need to hide from Him.
