How to Trust God in the Storm

Life’s storms, whether financial trouble, sickness, or loss, can make you feel like you’re drowning. The wind is howling, the waves are crashing, and it’s easy to panic and forget who is in the boat with you. The disciples experienced this literal storm, and Jesus asked them, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:40).

Trusting God in the storm begins with fixing your eyes not on the raging water, but on the one who commands the wind and the waves. It’s a conscious decision to believe that He is sovereign, even when your circumstances scream otherwise.

Trusting God is built on remembrance of God’s help and God’s ways. Whenever you are in a crisis, take time to remember all the times God has been faithful to you in the past. Recall the prayers He has answered and the ways He has provided and rescued you. This builds a foundation of faith for your current situation.

The Bible constantly and consistently calls God’s people to remember His deeds. Psalm 77:11 says, “I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.” Keeping a journal of God’s faithfulness can be a powerful anchor in a new storm.

Dear friends, Ultimately trusting God means surrendering your desired outcome to His perfect will. It is praying, “God, I don’t understand this, but I trust that you are good and you are in control.

I believe you will see me through this.” This is the kind of faith that pleases God. It silences the enemy and brings a peace that “transcends all understanding” (Philippians 4:7).

The truth is that the storm may not cease immediately, but your fear will. You will find a supernatural calm in the center of the chaos, knowing that the Master of the sea is holding you securely in His hands.
