Life’s storms crises, losses, and deep disappointments are inevitable. For a believer, the question is not if they will come, but how we will respond when they do. The biblical view is not that God sends every storm, but that He is sovereign over them, and He promises to be with us in the midst of them. Isaiah 43:2 gives this powerful promise: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you… when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.”
The purpose of the storm is often to reveal what we are building our life upon. Jesus told the parable of two builders: one on sand and one on the rock. The storm hit both houses, but only the one founded on the rock (hearing and obeying His words) stood firm (Matthew 7:24-27). Storms test the foundation of our faith. They show us whether our trust is in our own abilities, our savings, our health, or in the unchanging character of God.
Therefore, in the storm, your primary job is to cling to Christ. Fix your eyes on Him, not on the waves. Worship when you feel like worrying. Declare His promises when circumstances scream the opposite. This is how you find a peace that “transcends all understanding” (Philippians 4:7) right in the middle of the chaos. The storm may not calm immediately, but your heart will. You will discover that God is not just a safe harbor from the storm, but your anchor in it.
